It looks as if your William's parents were George (b. 1850) and Ann (b. 1857), and that George's mother was Sophia Pawley (b. 1804-1810) and widowed in 1861 census, in Gravesend, Kent.
My gg grandfather, Benjamin was born in Bromley in abt. 1821, and his father was a Thomas, about whom I have no information. Is it possibe that Benjamin and George's father were brothers?
I know that I'll need to visit the Kent County Records office to look up parish records...sometime!
