A DNA testing project for this surname has been started
A surname genealogical DNA project has recently been started for this surname. Surname DNA projects focus on genealogical Y-DNA testing for a given surname and it's derivations. There are two primary benefits from participating in a surname DNA project. First, is the opportunity to discover links between your family tree and other participants family trees. This can help tie fragmented trees together, prove relatedness and provide new clues for further research. The second benefit, which can sometimes be as interesting as the the short-term aspects, is the ability to identify the haplogroup you belong to and learn about your deep origin of ancestry (30,000+ years in the past).
Naturally, surname DNA projects yield greater results as more and more people participate. This surname project is new and there are currently 3 members that have taken the initiative to get things rolling. Your participation will benefit yourself as well as others - please consider participating if you meet the requirements.
Once you have been tested there are additional discussion groups you can join to share results and do additional research.
Note: there is a cost to you for having your DNA tested. The cost varies by the number of markers you desire to have tested.
Surnames in Project: Pall, Paul, Paulding, Pauley, Paull, Paulus, Pawley, Payl, Polley, Polly
Requirements:
1. Be a male
2. Have one of the above surnames
A Surname Project in essence traces members of a family that share a common surname. As a result, females are not able to participate in the project because
(a) They don't carry their father's Y-DNA
(b) They typically acquire a new surname by way of marriage,
In order to be relevant to a surname DNA project, the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his paternal line (father's father's father's...). The test to be ordered is either the Y-DNA12, Y-DNA25 or Y-DNA37, and females should look for a brother or cousin with that surname to be tested. Females can also order a test for themselves, which will be the mtDNA or mtDNAPlus, but the results of this test cannot be tied to the Surname Project.
