Edgar Paul, 1847-1900+, Ontario, Chicago
Pte. Edgar T. Paul of the 9th (University) Company of the 2nd Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto was wounded in action at the Battle of Ridgeway on the 2nd June, 1866, in the first of the Fenian Raids. From medal rolls and census records, I have been able to obtain the following information:

Clearly Edgar must have been related to the Paul family whose family tree I have compiled and uploaded on a new website http://www.hargreave-mawson.demon.co.uk/pauls.htmlhttp://www.hargreave-mawson.demon.co.uk/pauls.html . Part of this family left Connecticut around 1835, and settled in St. Thomas, Ontario, where they were prominent landowners and businessmen, owning and running the St. Thomas Brewery. Around 1868 two Paul brothers (Eltham Richmond Paul and Cornelius Danford Paul) moved to Chicago, Illinois, and set up in business there in partnership with one Thomas Hodge. Their offices were noted as having been destroyed in the Chicago Fire of 1871. The common "Connecticut to Ontario to Chicago" theme, and the simultaneity, cannot be coincidence, but there are several questions which remain unanswered;
Who were Edgar's parents?
What was his second name?
Did he work for the other Chicago Pauls?
What was his wife's maiden name?
Did he become a partner in the firm?
What did he do with his life?
When did he die?
If you have answers to any of these questions, or any other information on Edgar T. Paul, please e-mail me.
Best regards,
Mike
