I am not a relative, but someone connected distantly to the Paul family. This is what I've been able to find out about Joseph Ellison Paul and wife, Lydia Belle Justice.
They were found within the West Virginia Marriage Records, 1863-1900 about L. B. Justice (Lydia Belle Justice)
Name: Joseph E. Paul (Joseph Ellison)
Spouse: L. B. Justice
Marriage Date: 12 Oct 1893
County: Cabell
State: WV
In the 1930 census, I found a Leta Paul b. Apr 1895 West Virginia, and her parents and she were living in White Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier, West Virginia. After the 1930 census, I can't find hide nor hair of her. Hope someone is able to because I can't.
Then, as I read through this Paul forum, I found out that Lydia and Joseph Ellison had had a son, Charles Bennie, whose name I'd lay money on it was Charles Benjamin Bennie Paul who was born in 1905 Huntington, Cabell, West Virginia. I found Bennie Sr. within the 1930 census in Hinton City, Summers, Greenbrier, West Virginia, that Bennie had a family. This family was made up of a wife, Mary E. age 22 in 1930 b. 1908 who had been married at age 16 in 1924. There were two children; Mary P. age 3, b. 1927 and Charles Bennie Jr. b. 1928. His father, C. Bennie Paul Sr. had been listed as working as a clerk within a clothing store in Hilton City, Summers, Greenbrier, WV in 1930.
Name:Charles Paul (the son Jr.)
Birth:24 Oct 1923
Death:Feb 1982 - Louise, Wharton, Texas, United States of America
Civil:Oklahoma (SSI began)
Then, as I began searching for Joseph Ellison Paul and know that this whole family traveled to Texas, ultimately, I found this record within the Louisiana Statewide Death Index and had to go by the estimated birth year that had been 'guestimated' to have been 1867...however, I believe Joseph had been born within Jun 1866 West Virginia. Thus, one might be able to assume that on the family's trek to Texas, Joseph passed away on their way through Louisiana on their way to Texas.
Louisiana Statewide Death Index, 1900-1949
about Joseph Paul Name: Joseph Paul
Death Date: 7 Feb 1922
Estimated birth year: 1867
Age: 55 years
Parish: Acadia
Certificate Number: 1045
Volume: 3
Title: Louisiana Statewide Death Indeces 1900-1929
then, I came across this Texas death date for a Fannie Belle Paul whose date of death made her within the realm of being 62 yrs old, since I found Lydia within the 1930 White Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier, West Virginia noting that she had been born in 1873 in Logan, West Virginia...so this Texas death date seemed reasonable. Women either were called Mollie, Betty, or Fannie, so I think Lydia settled for or was called Fannie.
Texas Death Index, 1903-2000
about Fannie Belle Paul
Name: Fannie Belle Paul
Death Date: 6 Jan 1935
Death County: Collin
Certificate: 995
Hope this helps someone in the Paul family!
