Ron,
I am just starting my search for the Paul family for my step-father.I think there is a connection to your family.
The Sam Paul I have heard about has this information:
He was born 1832 in or close to Atlanta, GA. He died 1913 in Alabama. His mother died at his birth. His father died when he was about 7 or 8.He lived on a plantation. An uncle took over the plantation and was very cruel.Sam hide from the uncle and later lived with other relatives. He eventually moved to Alabama when he was about 14.He was an overseer of slaves for a family and eventually bought land in the area.I will have to check to see if I have any information on where the land was located.
Sam's mother's last name was Goss.No idea on the father's name.I am sure he had an older sister and perhaps a brother or two who all stayed in GA.
Sam Paul fought in the CSA.He served in the 30th Inf of Alabama, Co C.I think he joined in the spring of 1862. He was captured at Vicksburg, Miss and pardoned, but I am almost 100% sure he went back because he didn't return home until 1865.He married Nancy Formby (1842-1919).They had several children-I can probably find the names and other information. The person related to my step-father was Martha Paul born 11-15-1861.
I think I noticed that you are living in TN.I also live in TN, but my step-father in from Alabama and lives there.
I would like to share information if you are interested.I would like to know who the person was that told you about the Sam Paul that farmed around the Coosa river, because that is where my Sam Paul farmed.
