I am interested in the story of the migration of the
"Paul's" in your family from Massachusetts. My g-grand-
father was born in Lowell, Mass. in 1830, moved to New
Bedford in the mid-1830's, went to sea on whaling ships,
1842-1848, before discharging and coming to CA for the
gold rush. The rest of his family came west in C. 1859
when he became the sheriff in Calaveras County---went on to
some notariety in Arizona Territory as a lawman and Wells
Fargo messenger---connected with the "Earp legend".
His name was Robert Havelin "Bob" Paul, son of John and
Mary Paul, who migrated to Mass. from Newfoundland---
anecdotal family history from Scotland. One older brother,
John, stayed in New Bedford as a tailor and I lost contact
in the mid-1870's.
