(Miller) Paul. Children of Levi and Sarah Paul; Spurgeon E.; Mae (Mrs. James C. Powell, Portland, OR); Warner (MN).
Spurgeon grew up on his father's farm near Wheaton, Minnesota. He was educated in the public schools and completed a law course at the University of Minnesota and was admitted to the Minnesota bar.Spurgeon returned to Freeport, IL, took the bar examination in 1912, and was admitted and tried his first cases there.He came to Montana from Freeport and became a lawyer of Sheridan county.
Spurgeon homesteaded a half-section farm five miles northwest of Redstone, MT, and grew wheat, flax, oats, and other feeds.On 10 Jan 1917, Minot, ND, Spurgeon married Miss Grace Crossen, a neighbor and fellow homesteader. Grace was born 31 Oct 1893, Sparta, WI, daughter of William Crossen.In 1914, she came with her mother to Montana and entered a claim.In Nov 1919, they abandoned the claims as a place of residence and moved into Redstone.Mr. Paul was active in civic affairs and served as US Commissioner.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul have one son, Levi William, born Nov 1917.
