Richard Paul b. 1837 son of George & Mary (Brass) Paul , Somerset , England
Fellow Paul researchers:
In July I sent for a birth certificate for Richard Paul, son of George Paul and Mary.
It arrived from England in the mail today!!!
A copy is attached for those of you with e-mails that handle attachments. If it does not come through or is not readable, send me your snail mail address and I will mail you a photocopy.
The year was 1838, which is when the birth was registered.
The registration district was Langport.
The sub-district was Curry Rivele (spelled Curry Rivel other places).
In the county of Somerset, England.
Here is the information for the columns of the entry. This part is different from ones I requested years ago for a different family. This time the entire portion of the entry itself is photocopied onto the form, rather than being copied by hand by a living person now.
1.#57
2.When and where born:1837 December 28th at Isle Abbotts.
3.Name, if any:Richard.
4.Sex:Boy
5.Name and surname of father:George Paul.
6.Name, surname and maiden surname of mother:Mary Paul formerly Brass.(Brass is what I read from the old style handwriting, using charts in an English research book as a guide. This is why you may want to interpret the writing for yourself.)[This new maiden name means we now have some new searching to do!]
7.Occupation of father:Laborer.
8.Signature, description and residence of informant:The Mark of George Paul the Father Isle Abbotts.
9.When registered:18 January 1838.
To me this is the birth certificate of the Richard Paul that is a son of our common ancestor, George Paul.It fits with information I already have of Richard being christened 21 January 1838 at Isle Abbotts. It also fits with his age of 13 on the 1850 census for Illinois.
I have that Richard was born 8 December 1837, where the birth certificate indicates 28 December 1837.As I recall the 8 December date came from page in the family Bible.I have not seen this page, just have the information as received from others. Is it possible that in copying information to share with others part of the date was missed?Or perhaps the person that wrote date remembered it only partially when putting it into the Bible?
Hope you find this new information exciting and helpful.
