Archibald Paul departed on the snow (ship with 2 masts each with 2 square sails) “James & Mary” from Larne, co. Antrim, N. Ireland on a voyage of about 2 months.
On the morning of Jan 12, 1768, the Clerk of the Assembly reported to the Council, as recorded in the Council, journal, No.34,p-24-33 :
" In pursuance of His Excellency the Governor's directive,
I have this day been on board the snow (ship) the “James and Mary”,
which arrived at the Charleston Harbor on December 31, 1767 from Belfast, Ireland;
with John Moore, ship’s Master, out of Larne, (co. Antrim) Ireland
and administered oaths to such of the poor Protestants as were of age who had lately arrived aboard her into this Province on encouragement of Bounty given in the Act of the General Assembly of the Province, passed July 25,1761.
The clerk submitted (list, p.100) the names of those to whom he had administered the oath, and the number of acres of land to which each was entitled, which included Joseph Gladney, 21yrs.Joseph Gladney's land was located on a small branch of Jackson's Creek and the waters of the Little River, adjoined the grants of Jane McBride, ARCHIBALD PAUL, Ann & Robert Martin, John Phillips, and Thomas Gladney. Thomas Gladney's 100 acres were situated on Reedy Branch of Jackson Creek bounded by land of John Phillips, Bartholomew Austin, and vacant land.
The Gladney family were from Kinbally, Skerry Parish, co. Antrim, N. Ireland.
