Anna "Paul" is our great-grandmother. She was born Anna Elizabeth Williams,17 March 1860, in Kansas, daughter of John Williams and Melissa Jane Rutledge. Anna was married first to James Benjamin Paul who died in 1901. She then married Arthur Lauren Woodbury and they had a daughter [your grandmother] Ina Garnet Woodbury. "Garnet" is from Garnett, the county seat of Anderson Co., Kansas, where the Paul's and Rutledge's settled prior to 1860. I have much more information on the Paul and Rutledge ancestry, but very little on the Williams line. John Williams was from Ireland and married Melissa Jane Rutledge on 27 November 1856 in Vernon Co., Missouri. He is gone by 1860 when Melissa and daughter Anna were living with Melissa's parents in Missouri. These families were envolved in the Kansas/Missouri border problems prior to the Civil War. Melissa's father was "roughed up" and left a cripple, while I suspect John Williams may have been killed during the border raids but I have no proof of this yet.
I would be happy to share information on our related families. I can also email what I have on Ina's descendants as I would appreciate your filling in the blanks wherever you can.
Thank you,
Vern Paul
