Hi Stephuan:
I have just discovered that my gggg-grandpa was named Samuel Paul Wilson.I believe that his father was Robert Willson.And since this family seemed to like to use the mother's maiden name, for their sons middle name, I wonder if Robert was married to a Paul.
My Samuel Paul Wilson/Willson was born in Rapides Parish Louisiana, about 1799/1801.He married unknown Eliza.They also lived in Catahoula Parish, in the early years, then back in Rapides in 1840, where he received a tract of land as a patent.Then after his death, between 1850 and 1860, his widow is found in 1860 in Catahoula parish.
If you have any information, on the Wilson's and possible intermarriage with the Paul's I would be eternally greatful if you could send it to me.
I found a petition of a group of people, who lived in the Catahoula Lake area, in 1794, who asked for permission to settle there.It is believed that they were already there, but wished to have legal title to the land.
