Frederic,
I'm descended from Jacob Paul, who was in Boyle/Marion/Mercer Counties, KY at the same time as Dorell Paul. Tax and Census records show that, until Dorrel moved to Indiana, Jacob and Dorell often lived very near each other, even as they moved about within KY. I haven't found any proof they were brothers, but suspect they were. I also don't have any proof of who Jacob's parents were, but have some clues. Check out the 1810 and 1820 Grayson Co. censuses for a John and Jacob Paul. I believe these MAY have been Jacob's father and grandfather. These fellows appear in KY tax records going back to 1792 and appear to have moved through Logan, Warren, Ohio, Grayson and Jessamine counties.
If you are interested in genealogical DNA testing to determine if Jacob and Dorell's lines share a common ancestor, I'd be game to participate. I'm not an expert on DNA testing, but I understand it works on paternal lines and requires males with the same surname. I think it costs between $100-200 depending on the degree of sophistication you want to pay for.
Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in pursuing...
Jim
