Hello David,
It has been a long time since looking for additional information on the Pauls of Australia until today when I came upon your posting.
I am related to the Jane Moffat(through her Mother) you mentioned who married your Arthur Paul and had 12 children at St. Kilda.
Janes name was Janet Brown Moffat and her parents were William Moffat and Margaret Laurie. William and Margaret were married in Calton, Glasgow 1833 and had Margaret, Elizabeth Blythe, David and Janet Brown Moffat.
Most of the Paul data I have comes from an old LDS submission. I've verified some of the Paul childrens marriages and deaths via the Australian online records.
The LDS data on Arthur gave his birth as May 1, 1826 Greenock, Renfrew (near Glasgow)and death 13 Aug 1910, St. Kilda. Marriage 26 Oct. 1859, Victoria, Aus. His parents as Donald Paul and ? Lister.
I have Janet or Jane's death 29 Apr.1895 St.Kilda and the children as follows: Margaret Elizabeth,Arthur,Isabel Esther, Jessie Mary,William, John, Grace, David, Lester Laurie, Ewart, Josephine, & unnamed male born 1875.
I would love to find out more about Rev. Paul and his life at St. Kilda.
Margaret (Laurie)Moffat's sister Janet Laurie married a George Lamont and sailed to Canada in 1843 and these are my ancestors. I have been looking into the Laurie family recently and found out that two of Margaret Moffats nephews came to Australia (one to Maccelsfeild SA and the other to Geelong, Victoria) mid 1850s married and had children but went back to Leith, Scotland and one eventually joined his Aunt Janet in Ontario, Canada.
Can you fill me in on what happened to all the Paul children? The only one I have a bit of information on is Lester Laurie Paul as his WW1 records are available from Aus.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Laurie Dempster
