Hi Brian:
Wish I could tell you that our Paul line is kin to yours.
Don't know why my Paul ancestor started the story that we were related to John Paul Jones thru his brother William,
who died in Virginia leaving no children. He was dead 4 years before Samuel James Paul of our line was born.
I have never been able to get back beyond Samuel James Paul other that a sentence in a book to the effect that William Paul was the father of the Paul Line in Ireland.
Thought I had some detailed info on the John Paul Jones family thru a brother of his father but all I could find is that John Paul, the gardener at Arbigland, had a brother, George Paul, also a gardener who died in 1753.This was from the book "The Life and Letters of John Paul Jones" by Mrs. Reginald de Koven.
The book also says that both the gardeners were sons of an unnamed man at Leith, who kept a "mail garden" there, having come from Fife.
While in Charleston, S.C. a few years ago passed a cemetery in the heart of town and noticed a tombstone for
GEORGE PAUL
native of Kirkcudbright, Scotland
June 2, 1844 -- March 20, 1911.
