Arthur Langley Poll bn. ca. 1880 ??????
My husbands great grandfather is Arthur Langely Poll, Died October 12, 1917, in France during WWI??. Family stories say he was an orphan, possibly from France, before imigrating to England. They say that he might have changed his name from De La Poll or similar after moving to England because he couldn't find work with a foreign name.
Eventually he immigrated to New Zealand where he was drafted in the second round, as an infantryman, in Canterbury, New Zealand. He married Jessie Poll (Maiden name unknown at this point) and is survived by several ancestors. Jessie and Arthur had 8 children in all, one of which is Kenneth Langely Poll, my husbands Grandfather, deceased.. Kenneth Langely Poll did have a wife, but I dont' know her name right now. I can get a few more details on the down line, but anything before Arthur is really unknown and unverified. I know that he is on the Roll of honor and the war graves maintains a memorial for him and others that died in France during WWI, at Tyne Cot. His body was never recovered, but according to records, the day he died many were lost and never found.
I am looking for Arthur's parents, siblings, birth places and dates, marriage dates, ANY and ALL information that I can gather. If you have information on where you obtained the information, that would be great as well, since I want to be sure I have my relative and I can verify it. Thank you for any and all help.
