Hi,
I may have some leads for you. Actually, we have a long line of James Pauls in our ancestry, but two may be candidates.
I have been told verbally, but have no proof, that a James Paul came over from Scotland somewhere around 1900. He was born in 1845, which may make him a tad old to be the father ofJames Gregoire, but hey - Trudeau was much older!
Gregoire sounds like it might be Metis - which could have been rather scandalous for the Scotish relatives, explaining why this branch of the family was never mentioned.
Another possibility is his nephew:again a James, whom I know came from Scotland in 1904.He was born about 1880.
Apparently this James was autistic - with incredible musical and mathematical abilities, but "unable to hold a job". He ended up in and died in the Brandon Asylum. We always assumed he had no children.I have pictures of him in 1904.
Does any of this sound like a possibile match?
