Paul or Paule: France> NY > Illinois late 1700s-1800s
I am looking for information on a Benoni Paule.Family lore states he was a French Protestant, born in France, and exiled to America in 1808. He may have gone to Canada first (and perhaps was exiled from Canada rather than from France), but by 1810 he was living in eastern New York.He married a "Scots-Canadian" woman, name unknown but possibly Annis or Agnes.Their son, Jason Benoni (Benona) Pauley was born in New York in 1810, and his mother died soon afterwards. His father, Benoni Paule or Pauley was killed in the War of 1812 and was with Muhlenbergs Company of the 6th Regiment of Infantry (which included many New York and Vermont soldiers). Apparently his son, Jason was his sole heir. Jason B Pauley lived in Greene County New York, married Elizabeth Bray, and moved to LaSalle County Illinois in the 1850s...Any information or leads would be appreciated.
