Guy--
I'm not sure I have the answer but here are all the Williams (and others)that I know of:
William Paul1660-1744 (NC)
(Children: Abraham, John, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Frances)
Abraham Paul I - 1680 (NC) m. Amanda Forrest (b. 1720-VA - 1752-NC)
(Children: Amanda, William, John, Mary, Elizabeth)
Abraham Paul II - 1742-1820 Craven Co. SC m.Amelia (Amy) ???
(Children: William Isham, Abraham, Patsy, Stephen, Elias, Silas)
Abraham Paul III - 1764 Robeson Co, NC m. Amelia
(Children: Abraham, Flora, William, Wiley, Thomas, John, Mary)
SAME GENERATION AS ABRAHAM III (my line):
William Isham 1766-1829 NCm. ???
(Children: Isham, Abraham, Amy, Alin, Elizabeth, Stephen, James, George William)
Isham Paul b. 1790 NC (d. AL) m. Mourning Braswell (b. NC d. AL)
(Children: John Alexander, Mary Theresa, Leonard, William Dennis, Piety)
John Alexander (b. 1832) was my ggfather (he was 62 years old when my grandfather was born) and his sister Mary are the only ones I know something about. William Dennis was born in 1828. This is the closest to your Willis born in 1831. Any connection? I don't know. I do know that oral history in the family has Isham coming directly to Alabama from NC and no mention of anyone in Georgia. But since I don't really know what happened to the other brothers they could have gone to Georgia first. There is an old, unproven family legend of Mary helping someone escape to Alabama from Georgia as Sherman marched through the state. I don't know how much help this has been but maybe you can make a connection.
