Dear Suzy, The only problem I have with the William and Elizabeth info, is that "NO ONE" can tell me where it came from, not even Stephen, after 3years I have been "unable" to confirm the 1685 arrival or that they came from Illminster Sommerset England.
The article you have clearly states Ireland and Scotland. Also I have seen other postings and corresponded with other cousins, that say that The Abraham Paul that received the Land grants on the PEEDEE (1749) was from SCOTLAND. My Fathers cousins also say Scotland. I have a book with the early Paul arrivals and the info just doesn't add up. The only one that fits that info is a Joesph Paul.
I believe that possibly William was married to Elizabeth, but the will of 1744 suggests he married a woman named Mary also. and I believe the children are right, but I am not sure all the dates and locations are right that Stephen has. Example Abraham (I) son of William being born in 1720 in Va, it doesn't line up with Abrahams (I)'s childrens dates namely William b. 1730, Abraham would only have been 10, years old, and the children of Abraham are listed in his will. Also,Cousins like Rudy Rushing that had ancestors that married into our families, he is the only one to provide any documents, William Pauls Will. Rudys ancestor Matthew Rushing was married to William Pauls,b 1669, daughter Frances, sister to Abraham (I), which lines up with the known children we have for William and Elizabeth. These families migrated and lived in the same areas together.
I have another paper from Rudy I will forward that has some info on John.
Stephen sent me some papers that he had that had the same "NEW" info, that Rudy sent.
I also believe that the John that is Williams b. 1669, son "could possibly be" YOUR link to this family, but you said John was a son of Abraham, not William. You have to realize there is a William and Abraham in EVERY generation, the dates and generation are important.
All of what you and Stephen say could be true, but really, look at the dates and compare. I think the names are right but I think your info fits back "one more generation past" the William and Elizabeth info. instead of "Your John being their son", or the son of Abraham (I)D. 1752. I think he was a"nephew" to William b. 1669, a son of Abraham, Williams BROTHER, NOT HIS SON, of course this needs to be documented and confirmed further.
John the son of Abraham (I) son of William 1669 was born in 1748 NOT 1690)
I really tend to believe that there were THREE BROTHERS, I "THINK" our William Paul b. 1669 "could be" the son of an Abraham, but not my Abraham Paul (I), the one in Craven County that received the grants and died in 1752, he is Williams b.1669, son.
I also believe that William b. 1669 probably had a BROTHER named Abraham also, I believe this is where you fit in. The John in your line was born 1690, (not 1748).
Also "Stephens info" "says that Abraham (I), Williams, (b1669), son" was born in 1720 in VA. (I have not confirmed that and I don't know who found that ect.I have only found his will dated 1752) But it "would not" fit because Abraham (I)'s son William was born in 1730. According to the 1720 date he would have only been 10 years old at the time of the birth of his son. "IF" William b. 1730 was "actually" Williams 1669 son, that would have been a FORTY year chidbearing span for William and Elizabeth, which I feel is unlikely, William would have been 61 yrs.old.Plus the children of Abraham (I) are listed in his will.
This info from Rudy and the article you have seems to be the only ones that makes sense, and places William Paul and Elizabeth (Mary) in VA. before coming to the Carolinas. Plus the article you have is the only thing in print that I have seen other than the Will of William Paul, 1669-1744, that even comes close to what we are finding out.
If anyone can confirm the Illminster info I would love to hear from them. I have asked every cousin I could reach from the Paul reunion asking WHO found the William and Elizabeth, Illminster England info that they had in their paperwork and no one knows! It sounds good but without documention of some sort, how can we seriously consider it. I will attempt to email you in private and forward Rudys new info. ILOVE YOU we will talk soon. Mary
