My great-grandfather was Eli Washington Paul. He was born in what was then Puttman County, Virginia (now West Virignia) on 4/7/1828 and died in Lindsey, Garvin County, Oklahoma on 12/12/1912.To my knowledge he was only married twice.First wife was Lydia Maria Antonette Shepley (b. 1842 d. 5/22/1875) whom he married in Lewiston, Illinois on 9/23/1869.They had two sons.Eli's second wife was Anna Mae Wheeler (b. 4/27/1858d. 12/31/1943)whom he married in Fulton County, Illinois on 12/30/1876.From this union 8 children were born.I am decendent of Eli and Anna.
Oral family history has Eli's father as Jesse Paul.He named a son Jesse after his father from his marriage to Anna.

The 1850 Federal Census shows him as head of household caring for younger sisters.
