Paula,
I have been debating what forum, what state, etc. to post the obituary that I found in an ancestor's book.I believe that this is your family so I will post here. This may help with the history of the siblings of your ancestor, and if you e-mail me your address will send a copy to you and to others - if this is your ancestor or family.
Died September 6th, 1890, Mrs. Jane H. Callen, of Malcom, Iowa, aged 85 years and two days.
Mrs. Callen was a resident of Apollo, she was a native of Westmoreland County, PA, born and raised in the bounds of Old Poke Run church, of which her father, Samuel Paul, Esq. was an honored elder.
Her pastor was the Rev. Francis Laird, who baptised her in infancy and in her 21st year married her to a worthy man, Mr. Matthew CALLEN, who a little more than 40 years ago passed over to the other side.
Of her father's family only two brothers survive her, viz:The venerable John PAUL of Paulton, now in his 88th year and his brother, Maj. James PAUL of Dwight, Illinois, aged about 83.
Her five children survive her viz: Mrs. Dr. McBRYER, of Apollo, PA; Miss Eliza M. CALLEN and Mrs. Harriet C. MYERS of Malcom, Iowa; Mrs. Emeline S. McKNIGHT of Indiana, PA and Samuel CALLEN of Denver, Colorado.
.........
In July 1851, Mrs. CALLEN, with her family, removed from Apollo to Elder's Ridge, where for about three years she boarded the students of the academy........
In October 1855, she moved to Scott County, Iowa, where she remained until eight or nine years ago, when she settled in Malcom, Poweshiek COunty, where she died..........
