I don't have any info. on Matthew Paul of 1715.I don't have a Matthew in my file at all.
I have notes for John Paul, Sr.'s father: "According to the family tradition, both the gardeners, John and George Paul, were sons of an unnamed man at Leith who kept a "mail-garden" there, having come from Fife. But there were Pauls in the Stewartry long before that.On 29th January, 1678, a John Paul in Almerness gave a bond for 10 pounds 11s Scots to John Tait in Castlegower (Stewart Court Deeds, envelope XIX)."Father was a yeoman farmer.I am assuming the nationality of PAUL is Scottish.
Brothers:
John Paul, Sr. was a father of John Paul "Jones".'John Paul "Jones" was a sailor lad at 12 years of age.He worked with his brother in Virginia, but was out of sympathy with the work he was doing and went back into the Navy.He did kill a man in self defense, but Admirality Court was not in session, and he was advised to go back to Virginia and changed his name, so he added the name "Jones".He is held in high respect in Naval Circles as the Founder of the American Navy. His body was found in France and finally brought to America and reinterred in the Naval Ground at Annapolis. He was a Naturalized American sailor, an able commander and a courageous fighter.John Paul "Jones" was born in 1747 and died in 1792.' (Copied from Encyclopedia International 1967)John and his wife, Jean MacDuff, met while they were working for the same employer if I remembered from reading the sources correctly.
George Paul was a landscape gardener at St. Mary's Isle.
Hugh Paul - send email to Ted Paull at [email protected] for more info.
The Pauls, during their early times, were very talented in gardening and landscaping.

William A. Paul, son of John Paul, Sr., was a tailor and merchant in Fredericksburg, VA.
I don't know what info. you might have that I don't have. You could send me anything that I haven't sent to you.
Thanks Violet.
Mike
