I have run across the name Ellen Patty in the 1860 census of Horsehead Twp, Johnson Co., AR. They are listed this way: 438/438 Smith, John 36 TN Patty, Ellen 23 AR Smith, Richard 7 AR Smith, John 5 AR Patty, Tennessee 3 AR I have found a John Smith who m. Pernicia Patty, 31 Jul 1859 in Johnson Co., AR and believe that Pernicia & Ellen are one in the same person. Why she went by Ellen, I don't know. I found Pernicia Smith in Franklin Co., AR in the 1870 census. Apparently, John Smith had died by the time the census was taken. The listing is as follows: 210 Smith, Pernicia (KH) 33 f TN Imogine 10 f AR Rebecca 7 f AR Mary (Mar) 4/12 f AR According to another source, John Smith died 18 Aug 1870. How sad that he didn't get to witness the birth of his daughter Mary! I have reason to believe that this John Smith is my relative John Calvin Smith. He was the son of David Editon Smith and Sarah Gallymore. According to my family records, he married Keziah Pound first and then married Ellen/Pernicia Patty. He was Cherokee as well. The Imogine mentioned in the census has to be Virginia Irene Smith or Jennie who m. Thomas B. Hairston. Rebecca is Sarah Rebecca who m. James Madison Rackley. And I believe that Mary is Mollie who married a Fetter/Fedder. Ofcourse, I don't have all the proof to back everything up. That is where I am asking help. Please help me, if you can, with this family. Thanks, Mike Notify Administrator about this message?
