I have followed this thread enough to find that Thomas was the brother just older than Bennett, a nomadic sort that came to TX just after or toward the end of the Civil War. I find no record that Thomas Patty served in the Civil War, had children, or came to TX with Bennett and his other brothers and mother (after the dad, Benjamin, died). Did Thomas die before or during the Civil War? I have now placed Bennett Patty in Johnson County TX and later in Hill County TX but not, as yet, in Hopkins County where Thomas Benjamin was born. Bennett's first wife, Rosan, disappeared from the census rolls by 1870 and Bennet did not re-marry until much later in Hill County when he married somneone 15 his junior (named Coryelle). Do you know what happened to Rosan (short for Rosanna Moore -- I think)? Anyway, I find it interesting that the older brother was named "Thomes" and the father was named "Benjamin." Also, the Colquet's, who raised Thomas Benjamin from birth, believed that the parents were born in AR (that may be an error but Bennett and Rosan would've come from AR to TX; both were, most likely, raised in AR). Bennett was mustered into the service in Sevier County, AR (Dawson's 19th, co K). From birth in 1868, the man I am tracing was named Thomas Benjamin and, by the time he was 12, was going by the name "Benjamin." Roger Notify Administrator about this message?
