I'm looking for information on Capt. D.C. Patton, 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Confederate). I believe this is David C. Patton of Benton County who was previously captain of the Spavinaw Volunteer Rifle Company (Arkansas Militia) -- elected captain Feb. 21, 1861 at Osage Mills.
D.C. Patton enlisted with the 1st Cherokee Mtd Volunteers, July 12, 1862 and became captain of company L -- one of several "extra" companies attached to the regiment. In Feb. 1863, these extra companies were combined with Bryan's Battalion Partisan Rangers to form the 2nd Cherokee Mtd Volunteers with D.C. Patton as captain of company E. He appears on the roster for the period Sept 1862-June 1863, the last extant roster of the regiment.
