Debra,

You might try checking the Grayson Co, VA records for "your" Thomas Patton as Carroll Co. did NOT exist in 1797; Carroll was formed from Grayson in 1842.

You also might have better luck tracing "thru the back door" by trying to find the marriage record for his daughter as Thomas is so common. I have found one of my elusive family that way.

Good luck! There were several Thomas Pattons! I also am searching for one in my family here in Montgomery Co. I do not recall having seen the daughter and husband you mentioned.
