I mentioned probable first marriage for the fact that both these Richard Pattens were older when they married.
My Richard born 1787 in MD married Lucy Calwell Dec 14, 1826 in Darke County, Ohio per their marriage license. Now, my Richard would have been 39. Lucy was born 1803 so she would have been 23. Richard had at least 7 children.

John Patten & Sarah Colville were married Dec 26, 1833 in Darke County, OH. John is on the 1840 Twin Twp/Darke County, Oh as is my Richard. Surely they were kin. Both Richard and John Patten were witnesses on the estate sale of Joseph Colville 1840 in Darke County, OH/Twin Twp.

The Richard born 1784 in MD married Polly Alexander Oct 12, 1834 in Parke County, IN. This made Richard 50 years old. Polly was born 1796 so she was 38. There were at least 2 daughters born to Richard and Polly per the 1840 & 1850 Parke County, IN census.
