The Bible is an original from Edinburgh, Scotland.
It was given by the family in Indiana to the Library
It is 228 years old.
It has been transcribed some misspellings of names unfortunately have occured.you would have thought they would have contacted someone in the family if they were uncertain.
Also to note:I have all of the deed numbers and book and pages #s for most of my families old properties in Buncombe County. One thing that I came across, not sure if this is the right Thomas Patton or not, but I will type what I found.
Also, there are a lot of our families records kept at the Historical Foundation in Montreat, NC
Not sure if you remember in a previous post I noted that he was in Cumberland County, PA until 1765 at least because his Church letter was dated 1765 when transferred to Swannanoa Presbyterian Chruch in 1803, officially.

Mr. Newton was ordered to prepare a sermon on Eph. 11:1 and a lecture on 2 Peter 11:1-19 and perpare for standing an examination on Church history, Church Government and Chronology.

and it goes on from there............about James Alexander, etc.
In another document that I have dated August 6, 1967, it is a letter from Laura Shuford written on stationary from ARsenal Hill Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
It states that Robert Patton was the son of Matthew Patton who immigrated from England and lived in Peters Township, Cumberland County, Pennsyvlania. This is according to the Genealogy Department of Pennsylvania State Library at Harrisburg. It also mentions the Will of older Mattew Patton dated August 16, 1776 and probated Jnauary 7, 1778. I have the information from that Will, which I previously posted and was from a Genealogist. I believe that you may want to see if anything is posted on at the Library In PA as referenced above.
Also to note that when they came down from PA, they would have come through NC or SC and back in that day 1750 or 1760 NC and SC were in border disputes along the lines of the states. That is per Genealogist John Ashe, who was in Banner Elk, NC.I am not sure if he is still alive, but he helped with our information on Matthew Patton.
He also added to our informatin that Matthew arrived in the US 1729/1730.
The ship listings are now posted through the UK.I have looked at several of the passenger lists to find my family.

I still believe Library at PA may have something, besides Matthew's Bible.
will notify you when I receive anything back.
