I am interested in Pattons of Martic (Martick, Martock) Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. The immigrant ancestor was John Patton, who appears in the 1790 census and 1800 census. According to his son-in-law, James Clarke, John Patton "came from Ireland and his blood relations were few and far between. He had two nephews who were brothers, Robert & John Patton. John went to the West and Robert settled in Philadelphia and was for a long time Postmaster of that city....John Patton came to this Country from Ireland when he was a young man more than one hundred years ago. He drove pack horses over the Mountains with the Army of General Forbes when it marched through a wild country without any roads, and possessed by savages, to where the flourishing City of Pittsburgh is now peacefully promoting the arts of civilized life. In the war of the Revolution he served in one or two campaigns as the Captain of a company and ever afterwards his cognomination was that of 'Captain Patton.'" John Patton wrote his will on 3 Oct 1809. It was proved on 22 Feb 1810. Among his heirs was my ancestor, Cunningham Patton, named for John Patton's aunt, Jane Cunningham. He married a woman named Mary, but I don't know her last name. Do you have any information on this line? Thanks in advance, Richard Aurand Sherer Notify Administrator about this message?
