Thanks! I knew if anyone knew the answer for certain, it would be you. I do have a copy of the Lorna Patton Borman book to which you refer... right here on my desk, in fact. I don't think she mentions Joseph's parents one way or the other. Her book pretty much starts with Joseph's will. Where I started running into the references to Matthew as the father was in a lot of those "vanity press" books... you know, "The Genealogical and Personal History of Prominent Families in Your County" kinds of books, tons of which seem to have gotten published in the vicinity of the changeover between the 19th and 20th century. On the one hand, you can get a lot of good information from them, on the other, it sunk in to me about two years ago how wildly wishful and inaccurate they really are. It became hard to know what to believe and what not to. I actually had Matthew in as Joseph's father because of those things - a leftover from before I learned to be skeptical of them. Then recently found a copy of Matthew's will and was startled not to see any Joseph IN it. (Dum, da dum, dum) I thought I'd touch base with you and do a temperature check about if I had the wrong Matthew Patton's will in my hand, or if all those vanity histories had it wrong. Thanks again for your time and effort. I am, as always, in awe of you and your research. Well, back to it. Christine Notify Administrator about this message?
