Dr. Agricola,

Can you help clarify a question I have about the Cumberland Pattons?

several pieces of information I've run across say that Joseph Patton, the revolutionary, was descended from Matthew Patton of Cumberland County.

I have accepted this as true, but have come across a transcript of the Matthew Patton will from Willbook C, p 300 & 301 (transcribed by Richard Anderson in 1978).

In this transcription of the will, Matthew's children are listed as James, Samuel, Robert, Matthew, John, Thomas, and Sarah (with two Wilson granddaughters).

You're the most knowledgeable Patton genealogist I've run across, so I wondered if you know anything about this.

Is Joseph (the revolutionary war soldier who moved to Fayett County) the son of Matthew who died in Cumberland County? Is that information erronious?

Thanks if you know anything about it.

Chris
