Nimrod Patton is a bit of a mystery! He is found on the 1810 census in Montgomery Co Va. with wife and a daughter aged under 10 so he was surely married about 1808. I have twice visited the courthouse and there is no record of his marriage here or in Wythe Co.

HOWEVER, a William Patton did marry Rebecca SMITH on 12 April 1809 in Wythe County. This is a clue that perhaps Nimrod married Rebecca's sister, and he may have been a brother to William Patton. Do you happen to have any proof that Nimrod married Elizabeth Smith?

I find on the marriage bond for Rachel Patton (1834) that her parents are named as Elizabeth and (illegible to me). Did you read her father's name here as Nimrod?

I do have much more on the William Patton line so would like to hear back from you!

David
