Hi Amy..You are the first person I read in Patton forum that referenced a Thomas..so thought I would pass on some info that I have on a Thomas Patton..I am not in the family but my great great grandfather wrote a column in those days with many locals talked about ...He says as follows...an excerpt...(Feel free to pass on to any Patton reseracher you think may be interested..if not yourself..)
June l893...Tucker's Crossroads - By the Observer...
...My old friend Thomas Patton from west of Lebanon recently sheltered with us..for the night. He was for a time in the glueing and soldering business but is now confining himself alone to glueing..As he had on a broad cloth coat and a stove pipe hat I suspected and so informed him that hew as either fixing to marry or preach. There are only three clases that wear stove pipe hats, lawyers, preachers and those wanting to marry.Uncle Tom assured me that he didn't belong to either but had just bought the hat because he got a bargain in it.Said when a man could get a five dollar hat for one and a half he ought always to take it in....
