My grandfather, Samuel Joseph Patti, was born in Sicily on November 1, 1908. I was told his birth name was Salvatore, and when they came to America when he was a boy, his father americanized his name to Sam. They settled in Buffalo, New York. He was a merchant marine, and served in the army during WWII. He retired from Republic Steel as a crane operator. He died in March, 1986. His brother, Angelo, lived in Buffalo until he died in, I believe, the 1970s. I vaguely remember Angelo's granddaughter, Angela, from when I was a young child. My grandfather also had two sisters (possibly half-sisters) that, I was told, moved to California. I had never met them, nor do I know their names. My grandfather's father was, I believe, John Joseph. I think their last home in Sicily was in Campobella. His first wife died at a young age, I believe due to TB, and prior to the emigration to the US. He remarried, and his second wife died in 1969. I think my great-grandfather died before 1965. In the 1930s, Samuel Joseph Patti married my grandmother, Sarah Jane Camilleri, also from Sicily, and adopted her Son Theodore, giving him the family name. Their son Joseph John was born in December, 1940, and daughter, Diane Patti Langlands, was born, I believe in July, 1949. They built a modest home in Cheektowaga (one of the first on the street), and moved from the city of Buffalo. To the best of my knowledge, these children are still surviving. Samuel Patti was a very intelligent man who had an endless thirst for knowledge; he enjoyed reading and sharing his knowledge. Puzzles and quizzical things delighted him. He enjoyed classical music. He was a proud and hard working man who enjoyed a simple life. Notify Administrator about this message?
