Thanks for all your desendant info. After reading it I understood why you were interested in the "four Patterson brothers" (William, James, Robert, Peter) referred to by Egle. You, too, have four brothers of these same names in your family tree. However, the four brothers referred to by Egle (and Ellis in "History of Fayette Co.") are different Pattersons, as you now know (these brothers were b. bet. abt. 1724-1736), and you can at least eliminate that possible path of research.
Your Pattersons seem to have Middleton, Monmouth Co., NJ roots.(I will substantiate this in a futher post.) And they seem to have been in York Co., PA in the early 1770's (I will susbtantiate this in a futher post). They then came to Washington Co., PA by 1792 (your info) or by 1794 (Beers' "Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington Co., PA," p. 976).
My Patterson research has concentrated primarily on the Pattersons who settled early in Fayette and Westmoreland counties, PA, but I have over the past several years also gathered info on various Pattersons who settled early in Washington Co., most of whom (with the exception of the numerous "Cross Creek" Pattersons) seem to have New Jersey origins.I will have to dig out my research notes on these "New Jersey"/Washington Co. Pattersons, and organize the material--then I'll type it up in abbreviated form and post it.This may take several weeks as I'm in the throes of family obligations at the moment (getting a daughter off to school, etc.)
In the meantime, I wonder if you could answer one question about your Pattersons:to your knowledge, were Robert and Mary Ann (Van Scyoc) Patterson Baptists?I ask this because the Van Scyocs/Vansyocks were members of the Society of Friends and seem to have converted to being Baptists about the time Robert & Nancy (Tilton) Patterson organized the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 1840 (after Robert & Nancy asked for letters of dismissal from the Ten-Mile Baptist Church). (Crumrine's "History of Washington Co., PA," p. 774 & p. 777)At least this is about the time that Enoch Van Scyoc "converted."(Enoch was father to Rebecca who m. Timothy Patterson, son of Robert & Mary Ann (Van Scyoc) Patterson.)Anyway, I just wondered if you'd found out anything about Robert and Mary Ann's religious affiliation.I'm assuming they were Baptist, but...
If you don't hear back from me by the end of September, feel free to e-mail me directly and give me a nudge about posting my research notes on these Monmouth Co., NJ/Washington Co., PA Pattersons.Actually, feel free to e-mail me directly anytime. If we have any info of substance to share, I like to post it, though, in the hopes it might help some other researcher.
