Patterson: WASHINGTON, DC & BALTIMORE
I am hoping to find other researchers looking at a Patterson family of Washington and Baltimore, Maryland. If you can add to this, which is part of a large detailed family history, I would be grateful for a reply:
SECOND GENERATION
2.1ELIZABETH2 McKELDEN
(William1 McKelden & Sarah1 _____)
Believed to be a (the?) daughter of William McKelden and Sarah _____. Place and date of birth not known, possibly Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. Believed to have died in Washington, DC. Believed to have married James Patterson, of whom virtually nothing is known.Marriage may have taken place on 8 August 1831.
Children of Elizabeth McKelden and James Patterson:
i. +Charles Wesley Patterson
ii. James Cunningham Patterson
iii. +Robert Patterson
iv. William Patterson
v. Edwin Patterson
vi. +Thomas Patterson
vii. +Emily Patterson (1835-?)
A James Patterson was listed in the city directory of Washington in 1822 as a leather merchant. Whether this was the James Patterson who married Elizabeth McKelden is not known. There were no James Pattersons listed in the directories of 1827, 1834, or 1843.This suggests he may have died or moved to another place, possibly Baltimore.JLF says he was living as late as 1831.
THIRD GENERATION
3.1CHARLES3 WESLEY PATTERSON

Believed to be a son of Elizabeth2 McKelden and James Patterson.Birth and death dates not known. However, a Charles W. Patterson, age 33, was recorded as dying in Washington, DC on 31 March 1832.This may have been this Charles Wesley Patterson, in which case the year of his birth would be about 1799. Married 25 March 1821 in Washington, DC, his aunt, Margaret Elliott McKelden, widow of John2 McKelden.
Child of Charles Wesley Patterson and Margaret Elliott McKelden:
i. +Charles Wesley Patterson, Jr. (1821-1904)
JLF wrote, "Charles Wesley Patterson was a baker. He and his wife Margaret lived on the north side of I street NW between 19th and 20th [Streets].See Washington Directory 1822. We know Charles W. Patterson was alive as late as 1831 because of an unsent letter he wrote to his father James and brother Robert dated Washington, DC 8 Aug. 1831.Charles Wesley Patterson too was set on going to Ohio in 1831 but said in the letter just referred to that?Margaret has always been opposed to me on the subject of going to Ohio, and I could not obtain the means to go without her assistance."
