Patersons of Eyemouth Looking for Colleen Sheppard
Not sure if you will get this but I noticed a webs ite by Colleen Sheppard who was looking for Patersons of Eyemouth.
I'm not sure if you can help me (or I can help you), but I came across
your web site during my research into a John Paterson from Eyemouth.
He served in the Scots Guards during the Great War, and his service
papers have him living in Ashington, married with three children and
working as a school teacher. He seems to have enlisted in 1915, but
he was only called up in 1917, and served in France from February
1918.
The forms do not provide a date of birth or the names of his parents,
however his enlistment form (dated 11th of December 1915) states he was
35 years and 3 months old at the time (and also has the date 12th Sep
which might point to him being born on the 12th September 1880),
and that he was born in Eyemouth.
I have had a look on the census and it has a John Paterson born in Eyemouth
about 1879 to an Alexander and Agnes Paterson, and in 1891 they are living
in St Ellas Building, while in 1901 they are living in St Ellas Place. I
noticed you have a family of the same name at the same address at the same
period and wondered if the two might be related.
Any information you have to suggest they are related (or are not) would be great. I can be contacted at
j.p.shipley(AT)ncl.ac.uk take ot the (AT) and replace
with @.
All the best,
Jonathan
