Hi Jackie,

My name's Matt Howie, from South Australia. I think I have posted to you before because we have very similar ancestry.

I am currently absorbed in the history of our family. I have two family trees here which state that in 1793, William Howie (b. 22.7.1762 d. ?) married a Janet PATON/Paten (one says Paton, the other says Paten) (b. 1773 d.?) I have read that Cpt John Paton was executed on May 8, 1684, and his wife (I don't know her name) gave his wife and sword to John Howie, a distant ancestor, who was a great friend. The sword and bible still remain in Lochgoin. However, I am not sure if the Janet Paton in question is a relative of Cpt John Paton. I am trying to look up descendants of John Paton, but it is proving unsuccessful. I surely hope that we are descended from John Paton also, but I'll have to keep looking to verify it or not!
