When searching for ancestors, I discovered that one of my husbands ancestors was a Scottish soldier in a garrisson in Ostende (Belgium). His name was Andreas Paton, in Dutch Andries Paton, he married in 1695 in Holland (Brakel) and had one son, Joannes Andreas. The family name has changed since then into Patings, which is probably the Dutch interpretation of Paton (maybe Patton)
I would like to find the ancestors of Andreas. Maybe someone in Scotland has information where he was born or where he came from. All information is welcome.
