Hi Gail.
We have William (born 1793), father as William christened 26th Feb 1768, died 26th April 1833. Married 23 rd July 1791, an Agnes Moodie (or Mudie) born 1771. There were two separate searches by two NZ cousins that came up with this same results.
One line of none confirmed info has: “William (1768)’s” father as “Henry born 1738” and his father as “William b abt 1710” and his father as “John b abt 1670”. This research was carried out by a cousin that lived in Dundee, who had been searching local records, but as I say unconfirmed and not corroborated, this cousin has drifted off the radar..
From my original post you will note that James Gardiner Paton b. 1832, Scotland., d. 15 Apr 1906, in Christchurch, New Zealand is my Great Grandfather. For some unknown reason, on arriving in NZ, he changed his name to Patten. One of his 12 children Charles immigrated to Melbourne Australia and that’s where I reside.
