Have you looked at Jame's death record? it may list his parents
I have a lot of paton's in my tree
Your Jame's could be my great grand uncle James paton born sept 2 1847, chr sept 12 1847 Ferry Port on Craig Fife, his parents were James Paton born abt 1823 died 1872 ferry port and isabella Roy born abt 1818 perth, died 1885 Ferry port
Now onto the siblings.. note the similar names
Margaret 1841
George 1857
Grace 1860-1948 married David Auchterlonie
Thomas Paton
Isobella 1856 Married James Richardson in st clements dundee
..
