Captain John Paton

I see a lot of messages on Captain John and several family trees purporting to descend from him. I see "member entered" data in the IGI and I read that there is a book called "Paton Family History" by John H Paton (which possibly doesn't provide a lot of "proof". So how much is fact and how much fable?

I can trace my ancestors back to pre-1800 Fenwick (James, son of Hugh 'Dreghorn' Paton), but the records trail seems to dry up about then. There may be a connection -- Fenwick was not such a large place.

Is there anyone out there who has any sort of family records supporting the connection back towards Captain John? I'd love to hear from you.

Gordon
