Pat,
I am sorry but I have not yet been able to trace the connection between the Matthew Paton executed in Glasgow after the Pentland uprising and Captain John Paton of Fenwick. There may well be a connection but I haven't found it yet. Captain John's maternal grandfather was named Matthew.

Could you send me a copy of one of the gedcom files showing your Matthew Paton and containing any forebears or descendents? This might help me to place Matthew.
