Dunno what I posted before, but here's what I have on the William Patmans:
William Patman (ca 1743-1767)married Sarah Watson.Their son was William Watson Patman Sr. (1760-1821).
William Watson Patman Sr. married Susanna Biggers.Their son was William Patman Jr.(Probably he had a middle name of Watson, but I haven't seen that written anywhere.)
William Patman Jr. married Nancy Leggett.
I assume that the first William Patman didn't bother to add Sr. to his name when his son was born, perhaps because his son's name was slightly different, because he had a middle name.
The second William Patman wasn't Jr., again because of that middle name. And the second William Patman couldn't have become Sr. until his son was born.
The third William Patman probably had the middle name, Watson, because he was called Jr.
Maybe it would be clearer if we used I, II, and III instead of just plain William, then Sr., and then Jr.I didn't assign the suffixes.I've copied them from internet material, and I presume they are part of the names that the Williams were called during their lifetimes, not merely titles that later genealogists like us have assigned to them.
I show Susannah Biggers as the daughter of William Biggers.
