Hi Barb,
Thank you for your reply and kind offer regarding Ella Virginia Mason.I've learned over the years to keep and mind in the fact that Ella might be a Mason relative but so far I've not located her in my Mason research. My Mason line is from Capt. John Mason who died 1755 Surry/Sussex Co. VA through his son Christopher Mason and wife Sarah Chappell.
What I lean more to is that the Patillo surname comes through Matilda Henry who married William Mason, great grandson of Christopher Mason. It appears that Matilda named their sons the middle names of her Henry and Russell families.Well, atleast that is the direction I'm going at present. First son Thomas LEWIS Mason, second son William PATILLA Mason and third son James FRANCIS Mason.
Matilda Henry's mother was Elizabeth Francis Russell, daughter of Robert Russell b. 1789 Guilford Co. NC and died 1850 Hardin Co. TN. We believe from the naming patterns that Elizabeth's mother was named Mary, last name unknown. In one census following Elizabeth's death, two of her married daughters, one in TN and the other in AR, listed their mother as having been born in KY. All the other census note her as having been born in TN.
Then on Matilda's fathers side we have William A. Henry born Botetourt, VA. His father was Wm. Henry Sr. and again wife unknown. William Henry Sr. also had two married sisters who moved to Hardin Co. TN and also two nephews of another sister.
I can say that in Hardin Co. TN there were various families associated with this Henry/Russell line including Hawkins, Davy, Johnson, Hawk, Hale, Cravens and Carroll to name a few. Then in the 1850 Hardin Co. Census residing in the home of William and Elizabeth Henry was a John P. Campbell age 19 born Illinois. In the home next door of William H. Russell was also a William G. Campbell age 18 and also born Illinois. I would imagine these Campbell boys were brothers. Also residing in the home of the Russells was Margaret Stobough 19 b. TN.
Following the Henry's move to Jackson Co. Arkansas in 1853, two other families who moved close by were the Wolfords and the Shackelfords.I hope someone on the list will recognize something in the above regarding our line.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Anderson
