Thanks very much for this info - it confirms what I have found.

I also have that the Thomas Paterson who married Elspeth Smith was born 1775 in Cupar in Fife and that he died of old age at Hedging Close in Cupar 28 Apr 1861. His parents were John Paterson and Elizabeth Brown. John was a Weaver.
