I haven't found the location of young J. L. Skinner's grave but I do have some insight into this family that may give some avenues for additional research on your part. The father W. J. (Joe Bud) Skinner, died 7 Dec 1948 and is buried in the Everette Cemetery in Wilson Co., NC. His wife, your great-grandmother, Sarah Margaret (Killet) Skinner was alive and was the informant on his death certificate. She died in 1982 at the age of 85 and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Wilson Co., NC. His death certificate is online at Ancestry.com, hers is not. Joseph is probably NOT in the cemetery with his mother. It follows the memorial style and is much too new. He may be with his father though the Death Certificate suggests otherwise. Sarah Margaret Killett was indeed from Wayne Co., born in the Stoney Fork Township, in the vicinity of Patetown, in 1897 to George William and Louise (Summerlin) Killett. She was the informant on her sister's Death Certificate, Betty Samantha Killette. Betty, and her mother and father are buried at the Martin Pate Cemetery on SR 1523 near the intersection with SR 1574 in the heart of Patetown. Two infants are also buried with this family, but they seem to be, according to the 1910 Wayne Co., NC Stony Fork, District 117 census, the children of George and Louise Killette. Some of your great-grandmother's sisters-in-law, possibly a brother, and what appears to be a neice are buried in the Pelt-Pate Cemetery, also in Wayne County. Based on these findings, it is possible that the Pate graveyard Joseph Skinner is buried in is in Wayne Co., NC along with his grand-parents, uncles or aunts. There is no hard evidence to support this. One other long shot you may try... the funeral services for Joseph were conducted by Summerlin-Hunt Furniture Co. & Undertakers in Stantonsburg. Later that just became Hunt Furniture & Undertakers, and it appears that that was bought out by Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Homes who are the ones who conducted services for your great-grandmother. Google them and give them a call. I've found funeral directors to be knowledgeable and helpful. They may know the location of a Pate Graveyard in Wilson County, such as the one Joel suggested, or perhaps others. One last thing if you choose to call the funeral home, which I strongly suggest you do. Funeral homes are responsible for filling out, and filing death certificates in the state of North Carolina. As such, they will have the name of the informant for Sarah Margaret's certificate and possibly other valuable information as well. Good luck, --Joe (a Pate researcher) Notify Administrator about this message?
