My paternal grandmother was Ellen Patchell, died 7th Jan 1937 in Cork, born apx 1866/67. Her father was John Patchell, born 1840, died 17/3/1890, probably originally from Carlow. His wife's name was Sarah. All were Church of Ireland. I believe Ellen's only sibling was a sister lost when "Leinster" was sunk in 1918. I would love to find out more about John's origins. Can anybody see any links with their own families?
The following may be of interest to Wexford Patchells: During the 1798 Rebellion, a James Patchell escaped from a massacre of loyalist prisoners on 19th/21st June. On 22nd June a Michael Patchell was killed in the vicinity of Gorey.
