My grandfather, Carl Pastor, was born in Quincy, Massachusetts. he moved to Philadelphia where my father, Jerome Pastor, was born. All I know about my paternal line is that the Pastors were Austro-Hungarian. Our family has a very old photograph of some gentrified folk in the countryside around Budapest, on horseback. Carl Pastor never spoke much about his origins, however, and he was fluent in both Hungarian and Italian, leading some family members to speculate that we Pastors were from Italy. Carl Pastor was a tailor. His wife, Rose, was of austro-hungrian origin, however, leading me to be inclined to believe he came from the austrohungrian realm rather than Italy.
