My Paschen family had a couple of members back in Germany who could possibly be your Frederick Paschen -- not likely but possible.Johann Friederich Carl Paschen b. May 30, 1852, Ruhethal , Mechlenburg Schwerin, Germany and his brother (get this) Johann Carl Friederich Paschen b. Feb 12, 1847.Both are the children of Johann Friederich Heinrich Paschen and Sophia Puls.I don't know which of the three given names was chosen as the common name for either -- could have been Friederich or either of the others.I don't think there was any pattern when it came to choosing the common name.
The birth location doesn't appear to match your Freiderich, but German village names are tricky and have changed over the years.Ruhethal is a tiny village near Hagenow which is several miles south of the city of Schwerin (which was then in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin).I once searched for years for the village of Domric that had been written in a family bible. It turned out that the name had originally been Damretz or sometimes Dammeretz, but the modern name on maps is Dammereez.
All the Paschens in my family were daylaborers doing farm work on estates.Probably not involved in any duels.Odds are that we are not related to the same family of Paschens, but you never know.A search of Ships Passenger Lists might help you pin down the village where Frederick came from.
